Vacation home or hotel

Advantages and disadvantages

The decision is often difficult, because both have their advantages and disadvantages. The only thing that is certain is that individual vacations in vacation homes are becoming more and more popular. Whether a vacation home or a hotel suits you better, however, depends entirely on your personal preferences. It is best to think in advance about which option suits you better.

Advantages: Vacation Home

Vacation in a vacation home brings many advantages. Once you have done it, you can hardly get away from it. The seclusion, independence and tranquility exert a special charm on many travelers. And who is surprised?

We live in a fast-paced and hectic world. Many long for peace and relaxation and often succeed better in their own vacation home than in the large hotel complex. These are the advantages of the vacation home at a glance:

  • Often cheaper than a hotel room
  • Offers enough space (great for families / large groups of friends)
  • Vacation homes are often in a quiet and dreamlike location
  • Equipment (own kitchen, fireplace etc. available)
  • Flexible vacation arrangement (you can eat when you want etc.)
  • Privacy and tranquility

Disadvantages: Vacation Home

As with everything, there may be a few disadvantages to booking a vacation home that you should consider. On the one hand, a vacation home gives you more freedom and independence.

On the other hand, you have to take care of a lot more. You have to buy enough food, prepare it, clean up or clean the kitchen. Of course, all this is omitted in a hotel. These are the disadvantages of a vacation home:

  • You have to organize your own food
  • There are no offers for children (e.g. children’s club, animation program)
  • You have to cook / clean up / clean yourself
  • Possibly no special equipment for babies / toddlers available (high chair, crib)
  • Also in terms of security a hotel is better positioned
  • No reception to help you with questions

Advantages: Hotel

Although vacationing in a vacation home is booming right now, staying in a hotel also has some advantages. Vacationing in a hotel is considered particularly comfortable, since you don’t have to worry about breakfast or room cleaning.

You can leave your duties at the reception desk, so to speak, and just relax. In addition, hotels often have an extensive entertainment program. These are the advantages of a hotel booking at a glance:

  • You have a contact person on site (for questions, problems, emergencies).
  • You can use the room service
  • You get insider tips at the reception desk
  • Your physical well-being is taken care of (breakfast buffet, lunch, dinner)
  • Depending on the offer, drinks may also be included (e.g. in the case of all-inclusive).
  • You do not necessarily have to eat out, which saves money
  • You can take advantage of the wide range of leisure activities (e.g. rent a bike, animation programs, etc.).
  • You can also relax and bring your children to the mini-club.
  • Your room will be cleaned regularly

Disadvantages: Hotel

Last but not least, let’s look at the disadvantages of hotels. Travelers often perceive hotel vacations as impersonal and as if you were just one of many.

Especially bed castles can give you this feeling. Countless people line up for breakfast or you get in each other’s way on the hotel’s private beach. These are the disadvantages of a hotel:

  • Impersonal and anonymous
  • Often rather expensive
  • Little privacy
  • You have to share a lot with other hotel guests (beach, breakfast room etc.)
Depending on what type of traveler you are, certain disadvantages may even be advantages for you. Maybe you’ll gladly accept certain disadvantages like cleaning up after yourself for the many advantages (independence, peace and quiet). Weigh which option is more suited to your personality and then make a decision. A good middle ground between hotel and vacation home could also be a cute bed and breakfast (more privacy and still some service).
